BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty (BLEF-uh-roe-plas-tee) is a type of surgery that allows the removal of excess skin on the eyelids. With age, the eyelids become stretched and the muscles that support them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can collect above and below your eyelids. This condition can cause drooping of the eyebrows, falling of the upper lids and bags under the eyes.

In addition to aging, severe sagging of the skin around the eyes can reduce side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of the visual field. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems. Surgery can also make the eyes look younger and more alert.

HOW IS BLEPHAROPLASTY PERFORMED?

For lower eyelid problems such as under-eye bags, under-eye wrinkles, cosmetic lower eyelid surgery, i.e. lower blepharoplasty, is performed. The lower eyelid is corrected with an incision made 1.5 mm below the eyelashes. Depending on the type of deformation, the fat bags are removed, the hernia points are tightened, the skin in front of the bagging is stretched, or the tissues in the area where the bags are formed are spread towards the upper cheek area. The incision is sewn from the area of the eyelash line, so that there are no scars.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF BLEPHAROPLASTY?

All surgeries have risks such as reaction to anesthesia and blood clotting. Besides these, the rare risks of eyelid surgery are:

Infection and bleeding
Visible scarring
Skin discoloration
Temporarily blurred vision or rarely loss of vision
